Industrial Engineering Consulting Position
Provide consulting services in the area of warehousing and distribution planning, design, and operations. Develop effective concepts and plans for the utilization of facilities, processes, systems, and staff to maximize productivity and service. Develop practical and creative solutions to a variety of warehouse and operations issues.
Duties
- Develop warehouse layouts based on data gathered and client requirements. Coordinate any outside resources used to develop the layout.
- Manage site evaluation and selection process
- Perform warehouse operations and facility assessments to develop recommendations for improvement
- Define and develop conceptual solutions for material handling and warehouse automation projects and work with appropriate vendors as required
- Perform productivity analyses and development of labor and cost standards.
- Complete cost/benefit or ROI studies on assigned projects.
- Complete the development of system requirements and manage the search and evaluation process of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other warehouse and fulfillment software.
- Manage the implementation of projects as required.
- Perform Third Party service provider searches, selection, and transitions planning for outsource projects.
- Develop Strategic Distribution Plans including overall strategies for warehousing and fulfillment. Translate strategic level plans into detailed tactical plans.
- Facilitate industry benchmarking ShareGroups.
- Write articles and speak at various functions as required.
Skills And Experience
- Experience in applying Industrial Engineering techniques and education to a variety of warehouse and operations projects.
- Experience with Direct to Consumer, Retail, Internet, and Multi-Channel business environments.
- IE degree or equivalent
- Familiarity with current material handling and warehouse software systems
- 5 – 10 years related experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability effectively and comfortably work with all levels of client management teams
- Logical, analytical and common sense problem solver
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to help market and sell projects to potential clients
- Established network of Industry and vendor contacts
- Experience with CAD software is a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Good computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) related to software used for project planning, analysis, and management
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet time commitments.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Miscellaneous
- Approximately 30 – 50% travel required
